Antifaev and Hanson Earn AdequanR NAAC Titles

The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Futurity & AdequanR North American Affiliate Championship (NAAC) Show in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma held two more championship classes on Monday, November 29 – the NAAC Open and Intermediate Open classes. In addition, the show welcomed the 2nd go, 1st section of the $170,000 added NRHA Open Futurity and 1st go, 2nd section of the $105,000 added Cinch / NRHA Non Pro Futurity.

Andrea Fappani and Jordan Larson matched each other’s high score, a 225, during the Open Futurity second go, first section held Monday morning. Larson and Spooks Gotta Whiz, a Spooks Gotta Gun stallion owned by Michell Anne Kimball of Encinita, Texas, jumped to the top of the Level 4 Open Futurity composite leader board with a 446. NRHA Million Dollar Rider Fappani and his mount Custom Spook are close behind with a 445.5 composite score. The stallion by Smart Spook is owned by B&L Holdings LLC of Savannah, Texas.

In the Level 3 and 2 Open, Thiago Boechat and Prudencio Flores’ stallion Wimpyneedsacocktail led today’s scores with a 221.5 giving them the third place position in the Level 3 Open composite standings and second place in the Level 2 thus far with a 438.5.

Silver Spurs Equine’s stallion Smoking Whiz and Brett Stone lead the Level 2 and 3 Open composite standings with a 441.5. NRHA Million Dollar Rider Todd Sommers is tied with Stone in the Level 3 Open composite standings with a 441.5 aboard This Cat Can Slide, a stallion owned by the Cat Can Slide Partnership.

Patrick Flaherty and Peekomacho Del Cielo marked a 219.5 to lead scores in the Level 1 Open for the day. The duo now sits atop the composite leaders in the Level 1 Open division with a 438. The stallion, by Gallo Del Cielo, is owned by Jennifer Deweese of Carbondale, Colorado.

The top open horse and rider combinations, based on composite scores from the first and second go round, will advance to the NRHA Open Futurity Finals on Saturday, December 4 where the winner of the Level 4 Open division is guaranteed a check for $125,000 as well as incredible prizes from NRHA Corporate Partners and award sponsors.

Mandy McCutcheon Takes Non Pro Futurity Lead with a 220 Non pro reiners competed into the night at the 2010 NRHA Futurity & AdequanR North American Affiliate Championship Show being held now through December 4 at Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City.

The $105,000 added Cinch / NRHA Non Pro Futurity is now led by Mandy McCutcheon and Hidin Gunner. The NRHA Million Dollar Rider from Aubrey, Texas scored a 220 aboard the Gunner mare, owned by McQuay Stables, during Monday night’s second section of the Non Pro Futurity. Tricia Hamilton took over the second place position in the Level 4 Non Pro after marking a 219 aboard her gelding Is A Whiz.

Lisa Bissell and her gelding Timber Chic Olena continue to lead the Level 3 Non Pro division with a 216.5; however, they’re now joined by Tamara Wagman who earned a 216.5 with her stallion Spooked Up, owned by Wagman Ranch in Talala, Oklahoma. Wagman is also on top of the Level 2 Non Pro division.

Jaci Marley of Plainview, Texas now holds the number one position in the Level 1 Non Pro and Youth Non Pro divisions. She scored a 214 aboard her mare Graceful Guns. The pair also holds third in the Level 2 Non Pro.

Antifaev and Hanson Earn AdequanR NAAC Titles Meanwhile, two more champions were crowned in the AdequanR North American Affiliate Championship Show which features the top eight riders from NRHA Affiliates across the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

In the NAAC Open, Amanda Antifaev earned the championship aboard Lokota Chic, a six-year-old stallion owned by Myrtle Nickel of Napierville, Quebec, Canada. The duo scored a 222.5 while representing the Western Canada affiliate. Antifaev, a 23-year-old apprentice of Duane Latimer, traveled a long way from her home in Calgary, Alberta, Canada to compete in the NAAC. “In Canada, I have won equivalent awards. You know things are working right when it works on both sides of the border.”

David Hanson, a representative of the Northwest affiliate, scored a 220.5 and the NAAC Intermediate Open championship with West Coast Smarty, a six-year-old gelding owned by Pamela Carole Oshay of Alamo, California. “We’re proud of what we have done on the west coast, but it’s good to come here and gain national recognition through the Affiliate program,” said Hanson, an NRHA Professional from Clements, California.
