Will Roberts and Dubari Capture Championship Prize in the Regular Working Hunter Division at Kentucky Summer Horse Show
August 27, 2010Another clear day greeted competitors for the Kentucky Summer Horse Show at the Kentucky Horse Park. The day began in the Stonelea Ring with riders competing for championship and reserve championship honors beginning with the First Year Green Hunters. In the end, it was Cookie Beck an Hidden Creek’s Lennon to claim the First Year Green Under Saddle and go on to earn championship award in the division and Patricia Griffith on Platinum, owned by Lexi Maounis, took home the reserve championship ribbon.
Beck commented on her mount’s performance after claiming the top prize. “He won both (classes) yesterday and made a couple green mistakes today but still managed to jump amazing,” she said. “We bought him in February for a client (Mike Polaski) at WEF and have been showing him since March. He continues to get better and better; we saw so much potential in him. He will go to indoors next and could be a great Derby Horse in his second year.”
Beck has been traveling to the Kentucky Summer Horse Shows for many years. “I love the footing and the fact that you can ride everywhere,” she noted. “The panel of judges, the field and the facility is always great.”
Next in order was the Green Conformation Hunter division and it was Jocelyn Martin and Banderas, owned by Friday’s Farm, which received a pair of blue ribbons for the championship honors. Cookie Beck and Goosebumps, owned by Lisa Cudahy, earned reserve championship award for their excellent effort. “Banderas was very focused and brave today,” said Martin. “The course rode very well. I’ve only showed him since June, and we plan to do next week’s show and later on look into Harrisburg and Washington.”
This was only the second time Jocelyn has competed in the Kentucky Summer Horse Shows, but she is enjoying her stay. “I love the footing and the facility,” she explained. “I love the horse friendly environment.”
In the Second Year Green Hunters, Russell Frey who guided his mount, Inside Scoop owned by Chloe Reid, to the grand prize, the championship honors. The pair earned a first place ribbon yesterday and then went on to win today’s handy round. Jocelyn Martin and Quality Control, owned by Margaret Taylor, remained close enough to capture reserve championship award after winning the under saddle class.
The Professional Hunters Divisions wrapped up today with the Regular Working Hunters. Will Roberts guided Dubari, owned by Gayle Cox, to the championship title after earning a blue ribbon yesterday and two blue ribbons today. Arly Golombek remained in contention and claimed the reserve championship tricolor aboard Ralando Z after winning today’s handy round. “Dubari showed in Atlanta recently and is just getting better and better here at this show.” explained Roberts. “We are still planning to compete in the Derby Finals at the end of the month.”
Tomorrow the Kentucky Summer Horse Show highlights will include the THIS Children’s Medal held in the Murphy Ring and the WIHS Equitation Hunter Phase in the Stonelea Ring. The Kentucky Summer Classic will get underway next week beginning on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 with the Junior Hunter Finals – East Coast. The month long excitement at the Kentucky Horse Park will also feature the 2010 USHJA International Hunter Derby Finals being held August 20-21, 2010.
