Equine Center falls victim to theft

Sometime in between the quiet hours of midnight and 6 a.m. on Wednesday, July 7, some old-fashioned rustling occurred at Tarleton State University’s Equine Center in Stephenville.

Several saddles, multiple show bridles, spurs and other tack items were stolen. All of these items are used for classes and Tarleton’s SHOT (Stock Horse of Texas) show team.

The following is a detailed list of the stolen items:

PERNOKAS CUSTOM MADE ROPING SADDLE – basket stamped, modified association tree, shuefly attached to girth, horn wrap was cotton rope covered with red vet wrap with rubber on top, name and serial number under skirt.

WENDY ALLEN CUSTOM MADE CUTTING SADDLE; MADE FOR GREG WELCH – special tooled western scene with wagon wheels, Greg’s name on fenders, Buster Welch tree, serial number under skirt, ONE OF A KIND.

BILLY COOK CUSTOM MADE RANCH SADDLE – basket stamped with wooden stirrups.

SHOW BRIDLE – silver-engraved Mona Lisa bit, with swivel shanks on a horse-hair trimmed headstall with 5/8-inch leather reins.

SHOW BRIDLE – silver-engraved, high-spooned port bit on a horse-hair trimmed headstall with 5/8-inch leather reins.

SHOW BRIDLE – Jeff Payne custom snaffle bit with a bronze “H” mounted in a silver star, basket-stamped old-timey headstall with 5/8-inch leather reins.

ONE PAIR JEFF PAYNE CUSTOM SPURS – “DOC” on band in silver, 9-point rowels on basket-stamped spur straps.

ONE PAIR STAINLESS STEEL SPURS – inch and 1/4 heavy band, no engraving, rock grinder rowels, basket-stamped spur straps with Les Vogt buckle set.

ONE STEER TRIPPING BREAST COLLAR – made by Jeff Walker (J Bar W), harness leather, no tooling, four straps.

ONE PULLING BREAST COLLAR – harness leather lined with latigo, basket stamped.
