Ty Rohrbaugh and Shiners Spumanti Top 2009 NRCHA Limited Open Bridle World Championships

February 15, 2010 Off By Roberta Johnston

Ty Rohrbaugh won his first National Reined Cow Horse Association World title on Friday, February 6, at the First Community Credit Union Spur Arena in San Angelo, Texas. The Alamosa, Colorado trainer came into the arena as the last finalist in the Limited Open Bridle. While the resulting rein work score of 216 was impressive, Rohrbaugh and the 13-year-old mare clinched the title with a 221 in the cow work. The 437 composite was good for the Championship, $3,495, a Bob’s Custom Saddle sponsored by Jackson Land & Cattle Company, a Gist Silversmiths buckle sponsored by Knight Haulers, Rios of Mercedes boots from Rios of Mercedes, a commemorative World Finals vest sponsored by Gist Silversmiths, a CR Morrison trophy and a CR Morrison commemorative medallion.

“I’m really excited. I’ve been nervous about this all day,” the 22-year-old admitted. “It all just fell together and everything went well. I had a great cow for this horse.”

Shiners Spumanti, by Shining Spark out of Taris Vintage, is owned by Janiejill Tointon, who already has a World Championship for 2009. Her horse Shining Lil Nic was ridden to the Open Two Rein World title by Kevin Stallings.

“I can’t believe that they have both won! She’s actually my old show mare. I bought her when she was six, because I was just getting into the cow horses and wanted to show a bridle horse,” Tointon explained. “We’ve been breeding her – she has six foals. But I wanted to get some more earnings on her, so Ty and I have been showing her. He has done a fantastic job.”

Jeremy Meador and Ben And Dun It won the Reserve Championship for Stevie and Doug Beehler with a 433.5. Along with the title, Meador and the 8-year-old gelding collected $2,796, a Gist Silversmiths buckle sponsored by Knight Haulers, custom spurs from Tom Balding Bits & Spurs, Rios of Mercedes boots from Rios of Mercedes, and ESP saddle pad from Classic Equine, a commemorative World Finals vest sponsored by Gist Silversmiths, and a CR Morrison commemorative medallion. Ben And Dun It is by Ima Dun Cody out of Docs Little Sal.
