FORT WORTH STOCK SHOW’S RODEO RECOGNIZED BY WPRA
December 7, 2009The fast paced action of the “World’s Original Indoor Rodeo” has been a venerable part of the annual Fort Worth Stock Show since 1918. Over the years, the Stock Show staff and volunteers have worked diligently to ensure that PRCA performances are a one-of-kind experience for spectators and contestants alike. Recently, the Stock Show was awarded the “Justin Best Footing Award” for the Texas Circuit by the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association for the most consistent ground conditions and the safest, level playing field for the barrel racing competition.
“It is an honor to be recognized for our efforts. We strive to create the most level playing field possible. Part of these efforts consist of incorporating hand raking around each barrel after every run, keeping the ground at its best for the contestants and their horses during each of the 30 performances,” said Bradford S. Barnes, Stock Show’s Executive Vice President and General Manager. “For our 2010 Rodeo, we have agreed to modify our format for the barrel racers to only one go-round, allowing more WPRA members to participate and making travel arrangements easier.”
The Justin Best Footing Award is voted by the WPRA membership and recognizes the committees in each of the 12 designated circuits. The award is considered to be a gesture of “thanks” for a job well done. The Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo was recognized on stage during the WPRA’s Star Celebration at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. The Star Celebration was held during the 25th annual Wrangler National Finals Rodeo; and was emceed by 2008 and 2009 WPRA Announcer of the Year, Alan Moorhead and eight-time World Champion, Joe Beaver.
