Lexington, Kentucky – Teater Saddlebred Enterprises, Inc. conducted its Fall Sale on October 29, 30 and 31, 2009 at the historic Red Mile Pavilion in Lexington, Kentucky.

There were 509 catalogued entrants for the three-day sale. OUTs constituted 19% of the catalogue while Reserve Not Attained (RNA) held at 7% of sales. Top horses were both presented and sold for respectable prices, yet the average for horse sold fell just slightly from 2008’s Fall Sale, to $4,087. In an economy that has affected every business, the Saddlebred industry bore small witness to the uncertainties of a challenging market.

“There is always more than one way to interpret the data,” stated TSE/Tattersalls President, Ed Teater. The broodmare market softened, an implication that long-term investment is difficult during challenging times. The market for more liquid investments appeared solid however, as the sale of the young, well-started horses remained stable. “This can be interpreted as encouraging for our industry during economic downturn and recovery,” continued Teater. “We witnessed well-bred, well-prepared young horses rewarded with comparable bids. While other light horse markets have fallen dramatically, the Saddlebred contingent continues a respectable investment in its immediate future.”

A capacity crowd was on hand for the Friday Evening Session, which featured 52 consignments from the renowned Callaway Hills Stable. Lenore Weldon was in attendance, representing the public offering from New Bloomfield, Missouri. The gallery was rewarded with every entrant catalogued and anticipated being present, and each was sold in expert order. The leading breeder of the World’s Championship Horse Show for the past four years, Callaway Hills was recognized with the sale-topping ticket, as well as the following three highest priced entrants. The Friday Evening session was aptly prepared and saw numerous other notable exchanges. The average for horses sold in Friday Evening’s session was markedly up, while OUTs and RNAs remained consistent with past comparative sales.

Callaway’s I’ll Stand By You topped the sale with a bid of $102,000. The captivating two-year old son of WGC sire WC Callaway’s Blue Norther and out of Callaway’s She’s A Winner was presented to the public with Burt Honaker in the irons. The young horse was already established and capable in five-gaits, covering ground by working well off both ends. After entertaining enthusiastic bidding, he exited the ring to applause as his ticket was presented to Larry Hodge, signing on behalf of Hillcroft Farm, LLC, Paris, Kentucky.

Kyle Peel, up, had Callaway’s Take The Money And Run comfortable and steady in a full bridle. The dark chestnut mare generated bids and buzz with her square and athletic trot; she maintained a professional demeanor during her stay in the pavilion. The three-year old mare is from the first crop of foals by WC Mountainview’s Heir To Fortune, and out of Hall of Fame Broodmare Callaway’s Zerelda. She was selected by David Mount, Mount Saddlebreds, Simpsonville, Kentucky, for a price of $60,000.

Shawn Stachowski, Mantua, Ohio, is the new owner of Callaway’s Already Gone. A $55,000 ticket was required for the purchase of the two-year-old chestnut gelding. By WC sire WC CH Caramac and out of Callaway’s Cashflow, the able young horse was presented in a snaffle bit, and performed a beautiful and cadenced park trot. He was under the direction of Don Mace for his work in the pavilion.

Catalogued as a show prospect, Callaway’s Law And Order engaged the gallery with possibility. Presented by Kyle Peel and wearing a full bridle, this three-year old colt had a huge stride and his coloring got him noticed. By Callaway’s Blue Norther and out of Lover’s Eyes, Callaway’s Law And Order looked to be promising for any division. Ready, Set, Show, Inc., Oak Brook, Illinois, selected this consignment as an addition to their stable. The bid board lit on $50,000 as the big gelding left the sales ring.
