STFR to Award Scholarships at Ceremony August 13

STAR OF TEXAS FAIR AND RODEO TO AWARD SCHOLARSHIPS AT CEREMONY

Austin, Texas, August 11, 2009 – The Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo will award college students scholarships at the Scholarship Recognition Ceremony to be held Thursday, August 13th at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. The Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo will present a record $352,000 in scholarships to 44 students from across Texas with diverse backgrounds. The Ceremony will recognize and honor this year’s class of Recipients with an awards presentation, food & beverages and a special guest speaker, Bonner Cooper, who is a past Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo Scholarship Recipient and now a ProRodeo athlete.

Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo Scholarships are awarded to deserving students through The University of Texas, Texas State University, Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University and Austin Community College, as well as through the Texas 4-H and FFA Programs. Scholarships are open to students of all majors and are awarded based on academic achievement, financial need and community involvement.

The event is by invitation, but media are encouraged to attend and meet the new Scholarship Recipients. The Ceremony will begin at 6:30pm at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum; Scholarship Recipients will arrive by 4pm.
