Wild Card at Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo Delivers Thrills and Spills

By Susan Kanode for the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo

FORT WORTH, Texas (Feb. 4, 2026) — The pressure was on Wednesday night as Wild Card Wednesday unfolded at the Fort Worth Livestock Show & Rodeo ProRodeo Tournament, with last-chance berths to the Semi-Finals on the line inside Dickies Arena.

For competitors, the Wild Card round represented one final opportunity to stay in contention for a coveted Fort Worth championship—and several seized the moment.

Larsen Capitalizes in Bareback Riding

Veteran bareback rider Orin Larsen of Inglis, Manitoba, made the most of his Wild Card opportunity. A nine-time qualifier to the National Finals Rodeo, Larsen narrowly missed returning to Las Vegas the past two seasons after finishing 17th in the standings.

Determined to climb back into the top 15, Larsen delivered an 87-point ride aboard Forgetful Nelly from the Calgary Stampede to win the Wild Card round. While the $2,000 payday mattered, advancing to the Semi-Finals carried far greater weight in his quest to contend again at Fort Worth.

Jorgensen Leads Steer Wrestling

Steer wrestler Stetson Jorgensen of Blackfoot, Idaho, clocked the fastest time of the night, stopping the watch at 4.1 seconds. Jorgensen finished fifth in last year’s season standings and earned his 2024 NFR qualification after winning the iconic Pendleton Round-Up just days after the birth of his son, Rattler.

Now chasing another major buckle, Jorgensen’s Fort Worth success could play a pivotal role in securing his seventh NFR appearance.

Tryan Family Spotlight in Team Roping

A familiar Fort Worth name returned to the spotlight in team roping. Header Clay Tryan of Billings, Montana—who won a Fort Worth championship 20 years ago at Will Rogers Coliseum—paired with Whip Peterson of San Simon, Arizona, to win the Wild Card round in 4.0 seconds.

Adding to the storyline, Clay Tryan’s son Tyler Tryan is also competing for a championship berth. With father and son advancing in separate Semi-Finals performances, the possibility remains that they could face each other on Championship Saturday.

Women Shine on National Girls and Women in Sports Day

Wednesday also marked National Girls and Women in Sports Day, highlighted by standout performances from competitors sanctioned by the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association, the nation’s oldest professional women’s sports organization.

  • Rylee George of Oakdale, California, the reigning collegiate breakaway roping champion, won her event with a lightning-fast 1.8-second run to advance.
  • Barrel racer Katelyn Scott of Odessa, Texas—who competed at her first NFR in December—posted the fastest barrel racing time of the Wild Card round at 16.22 seconds.

What’s Next at FWSSR

Semi-Finals 1 begin Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. in Dickies Arena. Eight competitors in each event will battle for a top-four finish and the chance to advance to Championship Saturday.
