Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo Delivers Another Action-Packed Doubleheader

By Susan Kanode for the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo

FORT WORTH, Texas (Jan. 31, 2026) — The Fort Worth Livestock Show & Rodeo ProRodeo Tournament featured back-to-back performances Friday and Saturday, giving fans two full days of high-level competition as Brackets 4 and 5 wrapped up inside Dickies Arena.

Advancement to the Semi-Finals and Wild Card rounds was on the line, and several standout performances helped separate the leaders from the pack.

Welsh Sweeps Bull Riding in Bracket 5

A highlight of Bracket 5 was the continued success of rookie bull rider Hayden Welsh of Gillette, Wyoming. Welsh finished first in both rounds of his bracket, punctuated by a dominant 90-point ride Saturday morning aboard Boot Barn’s Southern Cowboy from Pickett Pro Rodeo.

While Wyoming-born, Welsh has strong Texas ties. He attended college in Odessa, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo, and has extended family involved in rodeo across the state—making his Fort Worth success especially meaningful.

Smith Shines in Tie-Down Roping

One of the unique aspects of Fort Worth’s rodeo is the opportunity for contestants to qualify through partner rodeos. That pathway proved crucial for Trenton Smith of Bigfoot, Texas, who earned his FWSSR berth by winning the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse Frontier Days Rodeo in Weatherford.

Smith capitalized on the opportunity by finishing first in both rounds of Bracket 5 tie-down roping, including the fastest time of the morning at 8.5 seconds. Continued success could propel Smith into a life-changing Semi-Finals appearance.

Kinsel and “Sister” Lead Barrel Racing

Four-time world champion Hailey Kinsel of Cotulla, Texas, and her standout mare DM Sissy Hayday, known as Sister, were also at the top of Bracket 5.

Kinsel and Sister have a storied history in Fort Worth, winning this rodeo in 2019 at Will Rogers Coliseum and again in 2020, the first year competition moved to Dickies Arena. With another strong Bracket 5 showing, Kinsel has positioned herself for a potential 2026 title run.

What’s Next at FWSSR
