NRHA / Markel Insurance Futurity Prospect Sale Results

The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Open Futurity finals closed out the 2012 NRHA Futurity & Adequan^® North American Affiliate Championship (NAAC) Show at the Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, Okla. on Saturday, December 1. More than 60 riders were mounted on world-class reining horses all aiming for the newly increased $165,000 level 4 open championship purse and their share of NRHA Corporate Partner and Futurity Sponsor awards.

Big Time Horses, Big Time Purses

In 2011, the NRHA Futurity saw a 25% increase in purse due to the NRHA Nomination Program and that effect continued this year with another increase (5.5%). The Cinch NRHA Non Pro Futurity paid more than $615,000 and the NRHA Open Futurity paid more than $1.5 million for the largest total futurity purse in the show’s history. Included in that total is more than $105,000 going to nominators of Futurity finalists.

Americasnextgunmodel and Deary Are NRHA Futurity Champions

At the end of two go-rounds, Americasnextgunmodel and Casey Deary tied for the highest composite score with Yankee Gun and Shawn Flarida. In the finals, they entered the show pen just two horses after Legacy In Lights and NRHA Professional Ruben Vandorp marked the new high score (223.5). The mare, now owned by Dana Conrad and Arcese Quarter Horses USA, and Deary thrilled the packed house with a run worthy of a 228. They claimed the level 4 open championship, Deary’s first, and $165,000 including the $8,250 nominator incentive for David Silva, Sr.

Americasnextgunmodel (Gunner x Cee Dun It Do It by Hollywood Dun It) won the level 4 open division at the 2012 High Roller Reining Classic Futurity and placed third in the level 4 open division at the 2012 NRHA Cowtown Classic Pre Futurity with Deary aboard. Deary is an NRHA Professional from Weatherford, Texas.

Level 4 open championship prizes included a Montana Silversmiths buckle, a saddle from Bob’s Custom Saddles sponsored by Pro Panel – Pat McArty, a John Deere hay bag, a pair of Rios of Mercedes boots, a Classic Equine Contour Pedic Reiner, Platinum Performance CJ, Assure Guard from Arenus, Sore No More from Arenus, feed from Purina, a $500 gift card from SmartPak, a $100 gift card from Pard’s Western Shop, spur straps from Equine Oasis, a pair of Soft Ride boots, a hat certificate from Shorty’s Caboy Hattery, a $100 gift card to Kyle Tack, stirrups from cowdogsaddles.com and a head stall from New West. Level 4 non pro champion awards also included a four-horse slant gooseneck trailer with living quarters for the use of one year courteously of Twister Trailer, the official trailer of NRHA. The Twister Trailer was custom wrapped by Smartwrap in Oklahoma City.

With only three horses left in the finals, Gunners Tinseltown (Gunner x Miss Tinseltown by Great Red Pine) and NRHA Professional Tim McQuay (Tioga, Texas) claimed the reserve championship spot in the level 4 open division with a 225. They took home a check of $143,470 (including the 5% nominator incentive). These earnings unofficially moved McQuay onto the NRHA Three Million Dollar Rider list and placed owner and nominator David Silva, Sr. (Tolland, Conn.) on the NRHA Million Dollar Owner list. The pair also won the Prime Time Open Championship that is determined by a composite score of preliminary go-rounds.

Level 4 open reserve championship awards included a Montana Silversmiths Buckle sponsored by Jerry Kimmel and Dun Gotta Gun, a $5,000 gift certificate to Twister Trailer, a John Deere hay bag, Classic Equine fleece cinch, Platinum Performance CJ, Assure Guard from Arenus, Sore No More from Arenus, feed from Purina, $100 gift card from Pard’s Western Shop, spur straps from Equine Oasis, a pair of Soft Ride boots and a $100 gift card to Kyle Tack.

Legacy In Lights and Vandorp Take Level 3 Open Title

Legacy In Lights (Hit The Lights x Doc Berry Miss by Elderberry Ace) and Vandorp (Aubrey, Texas) won the level 3 open division and placed third in the level 4 open division for total earnings of $138,785. The duo won the level 4 and level 3 open divisions at the 2012 NRHA Cowtown Classic Pre Futurity. Legacy In Lights, owned by Janet Benson of Valley View, Texas.

Wimpys Cable Lena and Baiao Win Level 1 and Level 2 Open Championships

Wimpys Cable Lena (Wimpys Little Step x Miffs Cablelena by Mifillena) and Pedro Baiao (Maysville, Okla.) scored a 218.5 to win the level 1 and level 2 open divisions. In addition, they place third in the level 3 open division and twelfth in the level 4 open division for a total of $72,570 for owner and nominator Robert Anderson of Flanders, N.J.

Champions in the level 3, level 2 and level 1 open divisions each received a Montana Silversmiths buckle, a saddle from Bob’s Custom Saddles, a $2,500 certificate to Twister Trailer, a John Deere hay bag, a pair of Rios of Mercedes boots, a Classic Equine Contour Pedic Reiner, Platinum Performance CJ, Assure Guard from Arenus, Sore No More from Arenus, feed from Purina, a $300 gift card from SmartPak, a $100 gift card from Pard’s Western Shop, spur straps from Equine Oasis, a pair of Soft Ride boots, a hat certificate from Shorty’s Caboy Hattery, a $100 gift card to Kyle Tack, stirrups from cowdogsaddle.com and a head stall from New West.

NRHA also presented Sire & Dam Program awards for the level 4 open division: first place to Gunner ($15,292), second place to Gunner ($9,175) and third to Jacs Electric Spark ($6,117). Wimpys Little Step earn the level 3 open division award.

Willette Wins Remaining Adequan NAAC Title

In the Adequan Championship Arena, nearly 40 youth reiners competed for the Adequan NAAC Youth 14 – 18 title. Madison Steed (Cochrane, Alberta, Canada) beat the field on Jumpin Jac Trash (Trashadeous x Sail Away Rene) for the win. They marked a 218.5 to give the Western Canada region the bragging rights. Steed owns the 2007 gelding.

Reserve honors went to Amanda Harris and her Chexouthisreminic (Vin Reminic x Miss Celebrity Chex) for their score of 217. Harris hails from Syracuse, Utah and competes in the Mountain region.

Mountain Region Wins Adequan NAAC Team Championship Presented By SmartPak

The Mountain region won the 2012 Adequan NAAC Team Championship award presented by SmartPak with 142 points. Representative were presented with a $2,500 check for their region. The South Central region placed second (138) and the Northwest region ended the competition in third place (108.5).
