Top Jumper Riders to Compete at Spring Gathering Charity Horse Show

March 29, 2011 Off By Roberta Johnston

As the Spring Gathering Charity Horse Show quickly approaches, riders are gearing up for this top-notch event, which will feature the best hunter and jumper riders in the country. The show features over $250,000 in total prize money, as riders will compete for top prizes April 5-10, 2011 at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in beautiful Katy, Texas. This unique event draws the top competition from around the country and benefits the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

One of this year’s highlight events will be the $25,000 Spring Gathering Grand Prix on Sunday, April 10, starting at 2:00 p.m. Other exciting jumper events will include the $10,000 1.45m Spring Gathering Welcome Stake, the $10,000 1.40m Spring Gather Jumper Classic, and the $10,000 1.35m Open Jumper Speed Stake.

Top rider Tracy Fenney has won numerous grand prix classes at the nation’s most prestigious competitions, and will be showing at the Spring Gathering Charity Horse Show. This year, she plans to show her top mounts MTM Timon and MTM Centano in the $25,000 Spring Gathering Grand Prix.

“We have ten horse shows in Texas that are very high quality with good management and good prize money. Spring Gathering is one of them,” noted Fenney. “There are top course designers and riders travel from all over to show at this event. It is fun to have people come to our area rather than us to travel a long distance. It’s also nice to know that there are horse shows that give back to a charity.”

Fenney’s partner Mike McCormick added, “This is one of the best horse shows we go to each year. The facility is super, it’s all outdoors but it’s covered and it has fantastic new footing. The competition is very good and people come from all over, it’s a great experience. Everything benefits the JDRF, which is very special.”

The Spring Gathering Charity Horse Show is a weeklong hunter/jumper event, and other highlights will include the Carole and Jim Looke Family Fund $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby, the$20,000 National Hunter Classic, and the $25,000 Pre Green Classic.

The Spring Gathering Charity Horse show benefits the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, which works diligently to find a cure for diabetes through the support of research. JDRF is the largest charitable funder of and advocate for Type 1 Diabetes research. Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults suddenly, and can be fatal. Until a cure is found, people with Type 1 Diabetes have to test their blood sugar and give themselves insulin injections multiple times each day or use a pump – each and every day of their lives. Since its founding in 1970 by parents of children with Type 1 Diabetes, JDRF has awarded more than $1.5 billion to diabetes research, including more than $107 million last year.
