The $100,000 added National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) World Championship Shootout brought some of the best reining horses in the world to the NRHA Futurity & AdequanR North American Affiliate Championship (NAAC) Show in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Thursday, December 2. With only two runs left in the class, Andrea Fappani and Yellow Jersey showed their prowess with a score of 226 to take the win and nearly $29,000.

Arcese Quarter Horses USA owns the Wimpys Little Step stallion that recently competed at the 2010 FEI Alltech World Equestrian Games. The six-year-old won the Team Bronze Medal with Stefano Massignan in the saddle and has more than $55,000 in NRHA lifetime earnings. Fappani is a perennial finalist at the NRHA Futurity, NRHA Derby, National Reining Breeder’s Classic and other NRHA major competitions. Fappani became the only European rider to win the NRHA Futurity’s Open Division in 2001.

Smart Spook and Rudi Kronsteiner were just one-half point shy of the win with a 225.5 for owner Rosanne Sternberg. Mister Montana Nic, owned by the Mister Montana Nic Syndicate, and Craig Schmersal tied with Wimpys Little Chic, owned by Arcese Quarter Horses USA, and Shawn Flarida with a 225 for third place.

Great Sun Burst and Fonck Crowned NRHA Open World Champions Also recognized tonight was Great Sun Burst ($223,000+ NRHA LTE), a seven-year-old stallion by Einstein. Bernard Fonck rode Roy DeBruin’s steed to win the 2010 NRHA Open World Championship title. They duo earned in excess of $48,000 in NRHA Open classes since January 1, 2010, besting the competition by more than $20,000.

Borgia Earns NAAC Limited Non Pro Championship Thursday’s competition in the Adequan Championship Arena featured over 45 competitors in the NAAC Limited Non Pro championship. The Northeast Region’s Steven Borgia scored a 217 to take the championship title aboard his ten-year-old gelding Cocoas Tycoon. The duo also won the Northeast Regional Affiliate Championship on their way to the NAAC.

In the Adequan NAAC Team Championship standings, South Central Region leads with two days of competition remaining. Their team has earned a total of 133 points so far. Northwest (118.5) and Southeast (98) are in second and third, respectively. SmartPak will present $2,500, custom awards jackets and the 2010 AdequanR NAAC Team Championship to the top point-earning region at this year’s NAAC on Saturday evening.
