McEntire Moves to the Top of the NRHA Open Futurity Standings

McCutcheon Holds Lead At End of Non Pro Go Round

Wedel, Welman and Paradis are Crowned Champions

The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Futurity & AdequanR North American Affiliate Championship (NAAC) Show in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma continued today with four NAAC championship classes, the 2nd go, 2nd section of the $170,000 added NRHA Open Futurity and the 1st go, 3rd section of the $105,000 added NRHA Non Pro Futurity.

Mike McEntire marked Tuesday’s highest score, a 225.5, aboard his Smart Spook stallion Red Stripe Spook. The NRHA Professional from Selma, North Carolina, now leads the Level 4 Open Futurity composite standings as well with a 447.

Nathan Piper and Thechexkeepmestylin earned a 223 during the second section to boost them to first place in the Level 3 Open standings with a composite score of 442.5. The stallion by Nu Chex To Cash is owned by Fabrizio Bevilacqua of Rome, Italy.

Xtra Quarter Horses’ stallion Shiners Voodoo Dr, ridden by Thiago Boechat, moved into the Level 2 Open top spot, along with Silver Spurs Equine’s stallion Smoking Whiz and Brett Stone. Boechat earned a 221 aboard the Shining Spark stallion and now has a 441.5 composite score.

Brandon Brant’s 224.5-scoring run aboard Smart Dundee makes him the new leader in the Level 1 Open Futurity with a 440 composite score. The Conquistador Whiz gelding is owned by his wife, Cathy Brant of London, Ohio.

Tim McQuay maintains the lead in the Prime Time division with his 445 composite score (handicapped) aboard Always Gotyer Gunsup, a Gunner mare owned by McQuay Stables of Tioga, Texas.

The top open horse and rider combinations, based on composite scores from the first and second go round, will advance to the Open Futurity Finals on Saturday, December 4 where the winner of the level 4 Open is guaranteed a check for $125,000 as well as incredible prizes from NRHA Corporate Partners and award sponsors.

McCutcheon Holds Lead At End of Non Pro Go Round Mandy McCutcheon and Hidin Gunner continue to hold the top spot in the $105,000 added Cinch / NRHA Non Pro Futurity. The NRHA Million Dollar Rider from Aubrey, Texas scored a 220 aboard the Gunner mare, owned by McQuay Stables, during Monday night’s second section of the Non Pro Futurity.

Lisa Bissell took the Level 3 Non Pro lead for a second time, this time marking a 217.5 aboard her Gallo Del Cielo gelding Rooster Deville. Tamara Wagman maintains the top spot in Level 2 Non Pro with her 216.5-worthy run aboard Spooked Up, a Smart Spook stallion owned by Wagman Ranch.

The Youth Non Pro Futurity championship, determined by the go-round score, goes to Jaci Marley. The fifteen-year-old from Plainview, Texas marked a 214 aboard her mare Graceful Guns in Monday’s second section. The duo also leads the Level 1 Non Pro Futurity, thus far.

Moonshine Juice was piloted by Jose Vazquez on Tuesday to a solid 219 to lead the Prime Time Non Pro Futurity division. Smart Like Juice Inc. owns the stallion by their own Smart Like Juice.

Non Pro Futurity competition continues Wednesday afternoon with the Consolation Round. This class gives more than 50 non pros a second chance to qualify for the Cinch Non Pro Futurity finals held on Friday, December 3.

Wedel, Welman and Paradis are Crowned Champions With record entries, competition in the AdequanR Championship Arena ran past midnight and four more North American Affiliate Champions were crowned. The NAAC features the top eight riders from NRHA Affiliates across the U.S., Canada and Mexico and experienced a 100% increase in entries in the Novice Horse Open Level 1 and Novice Horse Non Pro Level 2 divisions.

NRHA Professional Brian Welman rode Heather Smith Duncan’s Diamond Tari to win the NAAC Novice Horse Open Level 2 on Tuesday. The seven-year-old stallion by Like A Diamond earned a berth to the NAAC with Welman at the NRHA North Central Regional Affiliate Finals in October.

Dallas Wedel and Bee A Gangster took home top honors in the NAAC Novice Horse Open Level 1 with a score of 216. Dawn Barnier owns the Gangster Chic six-year-old gelding. The duo represents the Southwest Region in the Adequan NAAC Team Championship race.

The NAAC Novice Horse Non Pro Level 2 and Level 1 affiliate championship classes were dominated by Eastern Canada’s Marilou Paradis. The non pro from Saint Criox, Quebec, Canada, rode her five-year-old mare Sheza Bueno Chic to a 215.5 and both affiliate championship titles.
