December 7, 2010 Off By Roberta Johnston

Kenneth Platt is the first champion of the 2010 Borden Milk NCHA Futurity, winning the John Deere Division of the Open last night on Downtown Smarts, by Downtown Cat out of Smart Lil Addition, winner of the 2001 State of Missouri Futurity. Downtown Smarts was bred by Painted Springs Farm and is owned by Dwight and Kathi Fisher. This is the first trip to the Futurity for Platt, a 22-year-old trainer from Fort Lupton, Colorado. He rode first to the herd and marked 221 to earn more than $15,000.

Action continues in Will Rogers Coliseum on Tuesday with the Limited Non-Pro semi-finals, followed by the finals of that class this evening.

The NCHA Futurity Sales continue Tuesday in the Watt Arena. Read how the first session shaped up.

The Futurity will conclude with the Open finals on December 11. You can keep up with the action on the live webcast, presented by Big Sky Internet Design, every day and read about it in the Daily Chatter, presented by the McDavid Family.
