The 2010 FEI Adequan American Junior & Young Rider Show Jumping Championships presented by Gotham North came to a close today following the completion of the Young Rider Showing Jumping Individual Final at the Kentucky Horse Park. The Gold Medal was awarded to 21-year-old Ali Wolff and her top mount H & M Necoll for their amazing effort throughout the five round competition. Catherine Pasmore and My Boy garnered the Silver Medal, while Jessica Springsteen and Vornado Van Den Hoendrik took home the Bronze Medal.

Olaf Petersen, Jr. designed both courses for today’s two round final. The first round was very challenging with a triple bar, a triple combination, a double combination, and an open water obstacle. The top 15 riders were eventually called back for a second round, testing their power and endurance.

Ali Wolff and H & M Necoll made an amazing comeback after pulling two rails during the First Individual Qualifier. They completed two clear rounds during the Team Competition representing Zone 5 and entered today’s Final in the fourth position with 5.93 faults. They had a good effort during the first round, accruing four-faults and moving into the first place position for the second round with 9.93 faults.

The pair knew the pressure was on for the final round, with less than one rail separating the top three riders. Wolff and H & M Necoll easily rose to the challenge and tackled the second course with ease. They left each rail in its cup to keep the original 9.93 faults and win the 2010 Young Rider Individual Gold Medal.

This is the last year that Wolff can qualify for the Young Rider competition and she is thrilled with her performance after a fourth place finish in 2007. “After the first day I wasn’t really expecting much, I rode in the Nations Cup for the team,” she explained. “We really clicked that night and we were double clear, so I just tried to keep that rhythm and remember to be smooth and calm.”

Wolff hopes to eventually become a professional and will be traveling to Holland this year to attend the Maastricht University and train.

Catherine Pasmore also made an excellent jump in the standings with My Boy during today’s competition. The pair from Zone 3 held the seventh place spot during the first round with 10.65 faults. They were the only horse and rider combination to complete two clear rounds today. After the first round they moved into the second place position, and their clear effort in the second round earned them the Silver Medal.

Pasmore has had an incredible year during 2010, winning the Hickstead Young Riders Masters this summer under the tutelage of Laura Kraut. “I knew anything could happen so I went in and really dug deep,” she explained after receiving her Silver Medal. “I wanted to jump that clear round and my horse was super; he jumped better as the rounds went on.”

The talented 18-year-old rider recently graduated from high school and will be deferring college for a year. During the 2011 winter season she will show her horses at the Winter Equestrian Festival while working with Andre Dignelli and Laura Kraut. She hopes to travel again to Europe with Kraut and continue the amazing learning experience.

Jessica Springsteen and Vornado Van Den Hoendrik was in the lead going into today’s final competition with 5.44 faults. The pair from Zone 2 had an unfortunate approach to the water and the final fence to accrue eight faults during the first round. Springsteen and Vornado Van Den Hoendrik moved into the third place position in the standings, but the duo pulled themselves together for the second round and retained their hold on the Bronze Medal with 13.44 faults.

Today marked the final day of competition for all the disciplines at the 2010 FEI Adequan American Junior & Young Rider Show Jumping Championships presented by Gotham North. Competition will continue next week during the Kentucky Summer Classic Horse Show, beginning with the 2010 USEF Hunter Finals – East Coast which will get underway Tuesday, August 3, 2010.
