NRCHA and Ward Ranch Announce 2010 Raffle Colt

June 8, 2010 Off By Roberta Johnston

Purchasing a reined cow horse can easily empty most pocket books, but everyone has an opportunity to win an exemplary prospect sporting some of the cow horse industry’s most revered bloodlines. For more than twenty years, the National Reined Cow Horse Association has teamed up with the historic Ward Ranch to offer the Raffle Colt, who is given away at the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity in Reno, Nevada.

The raffle colt has been an institution for the NRCHA, and the colt comes with a paid entry fee for the 2011 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity for the Open, Non Pro, or Amateur.

This year, the raffle colt is a striking bay gelding by Reminics Pep (Reminic x Peppy Remedy) out of Master N Peppy (Master Remedy x Little Bo Peppy).

As always, the raffle colt represents the genetic excellence of the Ward Ranch. Reminics Pep, a son of Reminic out of Peppy Remedy, has lifetime earnings over $135,000. He was the 1998 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Open Champion, and then went on to be the Open Co-Reserve Champion at the River Front Farms NRCHA Derby. He was also successful in National Cutting Horse Association competition, making the semi-finals at the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association Futurity, and was a finalist at the Gold Coast Winter Championship. He was also the 1999 Arizona Sun Circuit Open Derby Champion.

The donation cost for a chance to win is $10, and that donation supports the annual NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity and NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Horse Sale incentive. There is no limit on the number of tickets that can be purchased. This is a great opportunity to win a horse from some of the best reined cow horse bloodlines available. For more information on the raffle colt, please contact the NRCHA Office at 580-749-4949.

The Ward Ranch was founded in 1972 by NRCHA Hall of Fame member Greg Ward and his family. Ward Ranch was built physically and genetically around the much-acclaimed mare Fillinic, one of the industry’s leading producers. She was the dam of 1972 Futurity Champion Sugarnic, and grandmother of the 1981 Champion Sugar Remedy. Many other Futurity finalists are also credited to this mare. Her son, Reminic, is the sire of Reminics Pep, and the 1986 Snaffle Bit Futurity Champion Smokinic. Fillinic’s grandson Master Remedy is the sire of Otoe Master, Master Checks, Masteroani, and Master Rani Chex.

In 1998, the Ward Ranch expanded with the acquisition of a breeding facility on the Kings River in Kingsburg, California. Standing there are Silver Gun, Smart Lil Highbrow, Smart Little Pepinic, Smart Steady Date, Topsails Rien Maker, Wranglers Starlight, Major Sno Chex, Mister Smart Remedy, Rene Dan Jet, Self Shine, and That CD Rocks.

The National Reined Cow Horse Association, now in its 61st year, is the governing body of cow horse competition, is responsible for promoting the sport, insuring high standards of competition and educating members and the public about the history and tradition of the cow horse. Through the support of a Corporate Partner family that includes Markel Insurance Company, Wide World of Horses, John Deere, AdequanR, Bob’s Custom Saddles, Cinch, Inc., Classic Equine, Gist Silversmiths, MD Barns, Platinum Performance, Inc., Nutrena, Quarter Horse News, Pfizer Animal Health, Rios of Mercedes, Merial products ULCERGARD and EQUIOXX, Running W Designs, and the Silver Legacy Hotel, the association works to keep the vaquero tradition alive in today’s equine industry.
