Longtime Saddlebred Supporter and ASHA Volunteer Passes Away

Margie Greenwell, a longtime supporter of the American Saddlebred breed, and American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) volunteer, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2010.

Margie was born on December 3, 1932, in West Monroe, Louisiana, daughter of David and Mamie Weems Arrant. She was a member and very much involved with the American Saddlebred Horse Association of the Carolinas and United Professional Horseman’s Association (UPHA). Margie was a graduate of West Monroe High School, and served her country in the United States Air Force in San Antonio, Texas. She owned and operated Cleveland Park Stables and Tack Shop in Greenville, South Carolina, and was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Ava, Missouri. Margie’s greatest joy was spending time with her friends and family.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Carol Greenwell. She is survived by her six children, Billy Greenwell and wife Kelley of New Bloomfield, Missouri; David Greenwell of New Orleans, Louisiana; Eddie Greenwell and wife Sandy of Greenville; Sara Sawyer and husband Rex, of Ava; Joe Greenwell and wife Wendy of Greenville; Mark Greenwell and wife Mary of Gaffney, South Carolina; two brothers, Raymond Arrant of West Monroe, Ed Arrant and wife Jerry Lynn of West Monroe; two sisters, Nellie Knox of West Monroe and Mary Wade of Odessa, Texas, and nine grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Friday, May 28, 2010, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shelbina, Missouri, with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday, May 27, 2010, with a scripture reading at 7:30 PM.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society, American Saddlebred Museum, UPHA or Community Hospices of America.
