SIRE Volunteers Help Special Riders

SIRE, Houston’s Therapeutic Equestrian Centers, is looking for volunteers who love horses and want to make a difference in the lives of some very special riders. SIRE provides therapeutic horseback riding and other equine-assisted activities to children and adults with disabilities at 3 locations in the greater Houston area: Hockley/Magnolia, Spring and Ft. Bend County at Sienna Stables. “I volunteer for other organizations, but at SIRE I feel that everyone really appreciates my help, from the clients, staff, and other volunteers to of course the horses. Every day that I volunteer at SIRE, I learn new information to help me become a better volunteer for my clients and the horses. I’m thrilled with the commitment SIRE’s clients (and their families!) have to ride, no matter what their mental or physical limitations might be. It is great to see the happiness, achievement, and independence that riding brings to SIRE’s clients.” says volunteer Bonnie Knowlton. New Volunteer Orientation for the Summer semester will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 6:00-8:00 pm with the Hands-On Training on Saturday, May 22, 8:00 am-1:00 pm at each SIRE location. SIRE volunteers should attend both the orientation and training and must be at least 14 years old. No previous horse experience is required.

By volunteering at SIRE, you can learn about people with disabilities, horses and make new friends. You’ll gain tremendous satisfaction from watching the riders enjoy contact with horses physically, mentally and emotionally. You will “give back to your community” while having fun!
