Cade McCutcheon Wins 2010 NRBC Youth 13 & Under and 10 & Under Short Stirrup on Okie Dun Did It
May 3, 2010Cade McCutcheon’s parents, Tom and Mandy McCutcheon, are both National Reining Horse Association Million Dollar Riders with many trophy buckles to their credit. And the 9-year-old has obviously inherited his parents’ horsemanship talents as well, winning many short stirrup reining classes over the years.
However, when Cade has ridden into the show ring, he’s always had to borrow a belt buckle because he had yet to win one. That is until Saturday, April 17, when he won not just one but three trophy buckles.
At the 2010 National Reining Breeders Classic at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center Coliseum Arena in Katy, Texas, Cade marked a 143 on Okie Dun Did It to win the NRHA 10 & Under Short Stirrup class. He received his first beautiful Gist Silversmiths trophy buckle along with a check for $18.
By Hollywood Dun It, the legendary reining horse owned by Cade’s grandparents Tim and Colleen McQuay. “Tango” is out of Miss Okie Too, the mare Mandy showed as a youth rider. “He’s a nice horse and fun to ride,” Cade said.
Cade also marked a 141 on Dun Being An Okie, a full brother to Tango, to win second place and a check for $12.
In the afternoon, Cade and his two horses moved to the East Arena for the NRHA Youth 13 & Under Ancillary class. It was a tougher reining pattern for Cade, but he and Tango won again, marking a 143.5 and earning a check for $77 and another Gist buckle. He placed second on Dun Being An Okie with a 140 for a $60 check.
The 143.5 was the same score marked by Devin Spencer and Gunnin For Diamonds in the NRHA Youth 14-18 Ancillary. That made the 9-year-old and the 18-year-old co-high point champions for the special Gist high-point championship buckle. Both also had their names placed on the Curtis Burlin Perpetual Youth Award.
The National Reining Breeders Classic, celebrating its tenth anniversary at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, Texas, is the most successful stallion incentive program in reining history. In just thirteen years, the NRBC has grown to include upwards of 230 subscribed stallions and in 2009, there were over 2,800 enrolled foals. Annually, the payout at the National Reining Breeders Classic exceeds $1.3 million. For information on the NRBC, visit the web site at www.nrbc.com or call 580-759-3939.
