Lyn Anderson Tops 2010 NRCHA Stakes Open Two Rein with Lil Time To Smoke/Terry Christiansen Wins Non Pro Two Rein
March 31, 2010Along with being one of the National Reined Cow Horse Association Premier Events, the NRCHA Stakes, held annually at the Idaho Horse Park in Nampa, Idaho, boasts a full-slate of NRCHA approved horse show classes. The first of the Horse Show Championships were decided on Friday, March 26. In the Non Pro Two Rein, Lyn Anderson claimed top honors on her horse, Lil Time To Smoke, with a 438.5.
“He was real comfortable in his rein work. I’ve only run this pattern once before, so I was more nervous about myself, but he was great,” she said. “My cow boxed well, but was looking at me like it was going to run, and it did! We had two good turns, and I would have preferred to take a third, but I was really proud of my horse.”
The Madera, California, trainer normally doesn’t buy horses for herself, but it’s a testament to a great lineage that, when she had the opportunity to buy Lil Time To Smoke, she didn’t hesitate. The 6-year-old stallion is a full brother to a well-known cow horse, Smart Time Tuck, who Anderson rode to many titles and accolades. She noted, “Lil Time To Smoke is my second-favorite horse, next to his brother. He has all kinds of talent. I always wanted a stallion like Smart Time Tuck, and now I have him!”
Anderson, immediate Past President of the NRCHA, took home a check for $1,500, along with a CR Morrison trophy.
Jake Telford, of Caldwell, Idaho, rode Kiss My Shiny Lips to the Non Pro Two Rein Reserve Championship with a 433.5, earning $1,250. Kiss My Shiny Lips, by Shining Spark out of Lipschic, is owned by Holy Cow Performance Horses.
Terry Christiansen topped the Non Pro Two Rein on Ill Be Sugari, collecting $250. Ill Be Sugari is by Ill Be Smart and out of Sugari Colonel.
