Kris Troxel and Smart Chic Dot Com Top 2010 NRCHA Stakes $5K Non Pro Limited/Jaleene Bruce Wins Non Pro Limited Provisional
March 30, 2010A busy day at the 2010 National Reined Cow Horse Association Stakes, held March 24-28 at the Idaho Horse Park in Nampa, Idaho, concluded with the Non Pro Limited classes. The $5K Non Pro Limited was run concurrently with the Non Pro Limited Provisional. Kris Troxel won the $5K Non Pro Limited, while Jaleene Bruce won the Provisional and was Reserve in the $5K.
Troxel was riding her veteran cow horse, Smart Chic Dot Com, and marked 209.5 in the rein work, and a smoking 220 in the cow work! “He was really fresh, so we didn’t have that great of a dry work,” she admitted following the class. “But I couldn’t have had a better cow work. That cow work was the most fun thing I have ever done – it was so cool!”
Troxel collected a CR Morrison trophy, along with a check for $600.
Troxel and Smart Chic Dot Com qualified for the NRCHA World Championship Show in San Angelo, Texas, but just missed making the finals. “All I’ve done since San Angelo is cutting, so that might have been why we did so well in the boxing,” she mused.
“I thank Christina Allen for all her coaching and work with this horse,” noted Troxel. “She’s riding him in the Bridle Spectacular tomorrow, and they’re in the hunt!”
Jaleene Bruce won the Reserve Championship in the $5K Non Pro Limited, and the Championship in the Provisional division, on her horse No Sense Smokin. Bruce and the Gunna Smoke gelding, out of No Nonsense, marked 210 in the rein work and 218 in the fence work for a 428. Bruce collected $450 for the Reserve title, and an additional $208 in the Provisional division.
The Homedale, Idaho, competitor and No Sense Smokin were the $5K Non Pro Limited Champions at the 2009 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity.
