Notable Saddlebreds Lost, CHCallaway’s Gold Rush and Winsdown Hi Octane

Lexington, Kentucky – The Saddlebred community has lost two Saddlebred stallions in recent days, as CHCallaway’s Gold Rush and Winsdown Hi Octane have both recently passed away.

Foaled near San Diego, California in January of 1992, and one of the first foals bred by Winsdown Farms, Winsdown Hi Octane has sired such noteworthy progeny as CHGhost of Gypsy, 2009 National Shatner Working Champion Winsdown Diamond Dee, 2009 National Country Hunt Champion Rose of Windhaven, as well as noteworthy Futurity competitors such as Winsdown Fifth Avenue, Winsdown Wilkinsburg, and Winsdown Point Breeze. His colts were known for their positive personalities, attitude and versatility.

Bred by Callaway Hills Stable, CHCallaway’s Gold Rush was foaled on March 5, 1987. In 1993, CHCallaway’s Gold Rush won the Five-Gaited Stallion Stake at the Kentucky State Fair World’s Championship Horse Show, ridden to victory by famed Saddlebred trainer and competitor Redd Crabtree.

Winsdown Hi Octane suffered a fatal heart attack this past Saturday, November 14.

Among the progeny of CHCallaway’s Gold Rush is, Callaway’s Gold Reserve, a three-time winner at Kentucky State Fair World’s Championship Horse Show, winning the Three-Gaited Two-Year-Old Stake in 1999, the Three-Gaited Three-Year-Old Stake in 2000, and Three-Gaited Junior Exhibitor 12-13 in 2001. CHCallaway’s Gold Rush also sired Pour Some Sugar On Me, winner of the 2007 Five-Gaited Junior class at American Royal, and which, as recently as August of this year, took third in the Five-Gaited Ladies Championship at Kentucky State Fair World’s Championship Horse Show.

CHCallaway’s Gold Rush recently had to be euthanized as a result of complications from colic.
