Mike Miller Wins 2009 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Non Pro Hackamore on Bucks Genuine Fever

Coming in as the very first draw of the Non Pro Hackamore at the 2009 National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity, Mike Miller piloted his horse, Bucks Genuine Fever to a 285 composite. Nineteen more exhibitors would take a shot at the Big Piney, Wyoming, Non Pro’s score, but all fell short.

It was the second year in a row for Miller and Bucks Genuine Fever to win the Non Pro Hackamore class at the Snaffle Bit Futurity Horse Show. “It was great – super,” he said modestly following the awards ceremony, where he received a beautiful Bob’s Custom Saddle sponsored by Cathy Corrigan Frank, a Gist Silversmiths Championship buckle sponsored by Shannon and Hershel Reid, a horse-hair mecate from Krause Mecates, a monogrammed down vest sponsored by Bob’s Custom Saddles, Platinum Performance, and a CR Morrison trophy. Miller was also awarded a check for $4,020.

“She felt good. She had a small bobble in the rein work, and we had a so-so cow in the cow work, but she tried really hard. She’s talented, but she’s also lucky,” Miller said of the mare, who’s won approximately $80,000.

Mike and his wife, Tara, also own her sire, Playboys Buck Fever, who is a Supreme Reined Cow Horse and has sired many other Limited Age Event and NRCHA Horse Show Champions. “I would like to go ahead and put her in the bridle so she can earn her Supreme Reined Cow Horse Award like her sire. Then I’d love to get some colts from her,” said Miller of his plans for the mare.

Kathy Wilson took home Reserve honors on her horse Dandy Little Randy with a score of 284.5. Wilson, a three-time Snaffle Bit Futurity Non Pro Champion, won $3,216, a horse-hair mecate from Krause Mecates, a monogrammed down vest sponsored by Bob’s Custom Saddles, Platinum Performance, and a CR Morrison medallion.
